Service April 20
Fred Harland spoke about why he goes to Church even now that he is an atheist. A most interesting discussion followed with many contributing the reasons for why they are here.
What's New
Something to think about during the summer - our first UCN fundraiser that will take place in early fall, our GST auction. Take a look:
GIFTS SERVICES TALENTS
Silent Auction
On Saturday September 20th, 2025, UCN would like to hold a fundraiser with half the proceeds going to Food Banks Canada and the other half to UCN. In order to do this, we need your help. Everyone of us has some gift, service or talent we can offer to others. Some examples of Gifts would be: a painting, a vase, a set of new linens, a set of golf clubs, 2 tickets to a play at the Roselawn Theatre in Port Colborne or ………
Services: a home cooked dinner for 4 delivered to your home on a particular night, painting a baby’s bedroom, fixing a leak in someone’s kitchen sink, 3 computer lessons in your home ………
Talents: a concert for a group in your home at a party, a magic show for a child’s birthday party, 5 origami lessons to children or adults ……..
There are so many things that YOU could offer!
Please think about how you can help UCN and Food Banks Canada. If you have something to offer, please put it in writing and give it to Karen or Abu in the nextcouple of weeks.
Also, from Doreen Peever I received this contribution to our discussion about why we go to our congregation here at the UCN. I intend to put this in our Web Blog when I have collected more of your thoughts. Here it is:
'Why I Am Unitarian' written September 1991 by Nammen Kramer
This question was asked to me for this morning's service. For a Unitarian, this question is not so easy to explain because our religion is not presented on a plate like Christianity, Judaism, etc.
Christians, for example, can find most answers in the Bible or their minister find an answer somewhere along the line for them.
Although we have not such guidelines to go by, I feel more free to go by common sense, science and philosophies of other great men. For that freedom I do not worry about all these depressive dogmas and creeds of heaven and hell, trinity and holy ghost and washing away our sins. As an Unitarian we can freely discuss our differences without hurting other people feelings or being hurt ourselves.
Being an agnostic, there are and always will be many questions unanswered, but that is what my life, as an Unitarian, makes interesting.
Please use our contact form to obtaining the email address submit blog entries. I'm looking forward to hearing more from you!
Please submit Word documents (other formats may be hard to use). 150 words (about 1 to 3 paragraphs) will suffice.
Esthetics Committee
The Esthetics Committee of Beryl Stovell and Heather Margerison is preparing to add pictures, art, and hangings on the walls at UCN. If you have ideas or input for our Committee, please email to both Heather and myself this week, as we would like to begin to address the bare, though beautifully painted walls.
Please send suggestions to both of us together
